Palace Youth Team 67,68,69

Has anybody any information re the Palace Youth for 1967,68 & 69 ?

A friend of a friend who played in that team has sadly lost all his memorabilia from his time playing for the club. He is hoping that somebody may have programs or any other items that he could copy to replace his treasured items.

The only thing he has left is a program from the Surrey Youth Cup quarter final against Horsell Youth in February 1968

The only player in Palace team I recall is Bobby Goldthorpe who made the odd appearance in the early 70's before leaving for Charlton. The full Palace team that night was :

Coupland

Webber
Brown

Goldthorpe
Bell
Gonzales

Broad
Howard
Grove
Stanton
Prime

Sub Lewis

Any information would be gratefully received. If any of the players from that side reads this post I am sure if they wish to contact their former team mate I would be happy to put you in touch. Thank you

My wife’s cousin - Ron Harland, played for the Palace juniors, he was in the team that reached the 1968 FA Youth Cup semi-finals, where Palace lost to Coventry over two legs - the furthest Palace had got in the tournament until the mid 1970s.

Here’s a couple of team groups - one from 1964/65 and the Youth Cup team from 1967/68.

This might help with identifying more of the Palace Youth team from 1969 - this group went on tour at the end of the 68/69 season.

Second group.67-68.
Back row Brown, McLeod, Chapman, Morton, Connelly, Hoadley, Wooldridge.Front row: Mosedale, Lewis, S.Tomkins, Vansittart, Harland, Norman, Cook.
I remember the Coventry semi final.
1964-65. Not seen that picture before!
Terry Self was usually in goal others in team were: Owles, Kay, Light, Coding, D. Cutler, Tinson, Smith, Stevens, Stack. Steve Kember and David Payne also played sometimes. I do not have the team that lost to Charlton in the youth cup Ist round when that picture could have been taken.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the Coventry Youth goalkeeper in the Semi was David Icke - later to become a BBC sports reporter, nowadays a bit of a crazy character who writes theories about the world being invaded by lizards

Icke was a member of the Coventry Youth team of that era - although a certain Dick Deighton is listed as playing for Cov in the Final of 1968, which they lost to Burnley over two legs.

Amongst the Coventry youth teamers that season who may be familiar to older fans were Jeff Blockley, Graham Paddon, Trevor Gould (younger brother of the more famous Bobby Gould) and Willie Carr - Carr apparently was withdrawn from the youth team that played in the final, to play in Cov’s first team, to help fight relegation (which they did for most of the next 34 years, but 1967/68 was their first in Division One!).

Icke made the first team a year or so later, understudy to former Palace legend, Bill Glazier and also playing alongside future Palace captain (very briefly!) Roy Barry - also known as ‘The General’ to Palace Guards of 1974 vintage (!).

Have got three photos of Ron Harland wearing the Palace kit from seasons
