Brighton 1-2 Palace

Just stopped laughing long enough to post , hang on Im off again .......

Two great goals with crosses from wingers on their right side , for all their shots they had 5 on target 3 of which were in one goalmouth scramble one was their goal and the other an easy catch , hardly the bombardment some have suggested .

Not a great performance by a long shot but at least we saw some bottle and of course the first goal helps .

Gives us a bit of breathing space and maybe the chance to be a little more adventurous in coming games

All is well in the universe for another week .

Ha Ha ha , stop it ,,,,Benteke !

Obviously fantastic feeling after winning in last minute . However i think we all know that 9 times out of 10 we would have lost the game . Effort from players was excellent , but to have 2 touches in their area against them having 52 in ours and 3 shots against their 25 , would generally end up in defeat . All the players put their bodies on the line but quality was lacking and so many loose passes .
Huge Summer for us , just hope SP makes decision soon ( you would hope he already has ref RH )

They never looked like scoring for 48 mins
Then could have scored 5 in a 25 min spell. Apart from that we were comfortable and deserved the win

I’m 59 years old, First game was in 1968, over 1200 home games attended & 100’s more on the telly... but by far far far, this is the best fun ever, even better feeling than Villa Park in 1990 for the sheer hilarious nature of it, anyone remember Dustin Hoffman’s smug expression in the final scene of The Graduate ??.... that’s the closest I’ve come to that in the 45 years since that film... what a great laugh, I just can’t stop smiling.....

Two touches and two class finishes, imagine if we actually had a game plan to get forward we could actually look decent

Oh well 32 points will do nicely, on to Fulham we go.

Interesting. I thought the attitudes of the Benjamin character and runaway bride’s in one of the most famous closing scenes subtly change in the few minutes at the end there.

in the back of that bus they went through unalloyed joy, then stillness and contemplation and then a gnawing concern about the future...

And that’s exactly how I feel...

13 Palace players, all part of a legendary performance. I don't really care about their individual scores, collectively a 10.

I think Brighton played their part as well, I'd also like to award them a 10.

All but had a heart attack over the horrible inability to keep possession and create any form of attack. YET then went into meltdown having been screaming for Andros to run it into the corner. BUT a now wanting to drink the house dry!!!!!

What a manic experience it is being a Palace fan

Have to say Ayew because he was involved with both goals and never stopped running. Benteke also deserves a mention for that amazing finish

Cahill MOTM for me closely followed by Ayew.
Having been at the 0-3 on Boxing Day back in the early 80s, 1-3 Boxing Day late 80s, and the recent 1-3 (Macca non pen) it was a great feeling to nick the three points in the manner we did. A highlight of a difficult season. Hopefully we can get a few players back for and have a decent bend to this season. COYP

Ayew MoM
Cahill old school defender took some pain for the team
Mateta great finish, but struggled to hold up the ball
Kouyate put his body in when needed
Benteke the one from Villa showed up with that finish
Townsend plenty of energy tried to be an outlet

The rest were mainly invisible, let’s hope this result breeds some confidence.

Between Ayew and Cahill. I went for Cahill, absolutely imperious. Has been a mixed bag this season, but can’t have been easy for him, returning so quickly from that bad injury, with no real pre season. Particularly at his age. Clearly a model pro.

Credit to Mateta of course, for scoring a goal Dennis Bergkamp would be proud of, and Benteke for a less outstanding, but much sweeter goal to win it.

Was thinking Kouyate or Cahill prior to the winner despite Mateta's excellent finish.
But have to give it to Benteke for that finish though.

Can we have a review each week till closure for Roy’s post match interview?

Say 1 to 5 with 5 being ‘highly sanctimonious with extra hindsight’ eg after a particularly negative set up and smash and grab win, or draw big boys.
Maybe 1 for ‘honestly down but boys tried hard’ after 3-0 defeat to top 8.

2 great goals, has to be one of our luckiest wins for a long but another poor performance overall. Ayew MOTM for me, seems to be 1 of only a few palace players that has any close control with the ball.

Ayew's two moments of explosivity changed the game...

Benteke and Mateta massive props for their goals.
Cahill was the only bit of our team that looked solid.

Voted for Ayew - because I don't think we'd have got the result without him. His purposeful runs not only were the only way we could relieve pressure but they led to both our goals.

Kouyate a close second. Great pass by Cheik to launch the move for first goal and some excellent defensive work too. Benteke arguably deserves to win it for his impact too.

Cahill also very good.

Guaita - 6
Ward - 6
Kouyate - 8
Cahill - 8
Mitchell - 7
Luka - 6
Jairo - 4
Eze - 3
Andros - 6 (big mistake but somewhat redeemed)
Ayew - 8.5 (the extra 0.5 for sheer workrate)
Mateta - 6.5 Lovely finish but not involved enough

Subs
Benteke - 8 Looked hungry from the off, liked the way he really hit the one that was off target. It wasn't executed well enough but it showed the intent that he rarely does. Did seeing Mateta score give him a kick up the arse? And superb goal for the winner. He can have 8.5 too.
