Siriki Dembele

No idea who he is, but from the bbc gossip column:

Fulham have watched 24-year-old Peterborough United forward Siriki Dembele, who is also attracting interest from Rangers, Celtic and Crystal Palace. (Football Insider)

Dembélé is ambidextrous although mainly right footed.

Primarily plays on the left-wing in 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 formations.

Prefers to play as a striker in a 4-4-2 formation.

Known for his speed, taking on players with his dribbling skills and holding the ball bringing others into play.

Nowhere near good enough for the prem according to a couple of posh fans I know, and they wouldn't care if he left either. Hasn't exactly pulled up trees in league one, and is very inconsistent apparently. Possibly worth a punt for a low fee I guess, but I'd hope we would be looking at better.

Can we continue to take risks with lower league strikers especially if he could cost around 15m especially with all the other clubs interested, also he would be seen as a starter for us when ideally if we could afford to bring him in and be used as our 2nd/3rd choice striker, then fine but we know that wont be so. But then he could turn out to be another Jamie Vardy or going back further a John Aldridge, even an Ian Wright? we should be so lucky.

I agree - would only be interested in Toney or Armstrong (Blackburn) if we were to go for a non top flight British based striker.

What would be really interesting Ralph, is if we could sign both Toney And Armstrong and pair them together upfront, ok they may be unproven at premiership level but the little and large pairing with Both being natural goalscorers would be something special for us long suffering goal drought Palace fans.
Then add Pereira alongside Eze in midfield with guile and movement to promt with quality passes, we really would be in business next season as an attacking outfit, Oh well its nice to dream.

To a certain extent, the quality of our strikers, as goalscorers, is irrelevant as we mainly use then to service wingers and hold up play. Our final ball to them is usually sub par. A lethal finisher will hardly get any through balls to exploit ( we don't play them ) and a deadly header of the ball will get few excellent crosses, especially if Andros doesn't play well, as is increasingly the case. We only have the ball around 30% of the time and the ultimate use of it is always to feed Zaha, who usually tries to win penalties or score himself, making the striker far less important than in other set ups.

We may as well have Cam Jam up front for all the use a great finisher will do us. In fact, we already have one, in Bats. But the moment we brought him in and then didn't improve the midfield, we condemned him to the exact same redundancy as other strikers across the last eight years.

Unless we improve the center of the pitch the identity or striking capabilities of our front man matters little. Perhaps we are finally recognizing ( I say it every summer but why not say it again for comedy effect? ) our need to improve distribution and supply as a means to maximize our striking capability and perhaps we are thinking of retaining Benteke and going for a cheaper option like Dembele, to save funds for elsewhere. It makes more sense than the usual pathology here of investing almost everything in defence and attack, then almost never having the ball or using it well, followed by the usual head-scratching as to why we can neither attack or defend very well.

Yeah, Toney, Armstrong and Pereira would only set us back 80 odd million!

I like the look of dembele when I have seen him play. Talking of Grimsby, might be worth revisiting Mattie Pollock

He's one to dodge. Watch posh a fair bit and he was dropped last season for poor work rate and being greedy. He wouldn't do anything for us. He's not really rated that highly at posh. Looks tricky but he's a YouTube player I'm afraid
