John McGinn (Suggestion)
Thoughts.
Aston Villa are willing to listen to offers for 27-year-old Scotland midfielder John McGinn this summer. (Football Insider) |

Good player and would add hugely to CPFC without question. But unfortunately he would be out of our reach as there would be more successful clubs coming in for him, also his fee would be restrictive to Palace's budget.

I’d love us to sign him. Top player. The perfect McArthur successor.

Villa were quoting £40m+ for him last summer, even if they'll accept £30m this summer that's still way out of our price range.
Need to buy the next John McGinn. |

Strange one, I work with a couple of Villa fans and he is not as highly thought of as people think. They say he struggles for consistency but then bangs in a stunner every 7-8 games. I was surprised as he always looked good to me.

Wouldn't stay on his feet long enough to sign the contract.
27 years old. Are we really looking at Villa-cast-offs?

28 early in this season - sort of classic early Palace PL period signing. Gets a 4 year deal and then leaves on a free at the end of it. Not the sort of thing we are doing now.

Remember reading on Villa's forum that they felt they needed to move on from him if they are to kick on to the next level.

Another to add to the long list of players deemed “injury prone” by the BBS.

Would be a great signing but can’t see it.

Surely the price determines if a player is a great signing?

And I wouldn’t be surprised if the games he missed were suspensions, he does like a card

Gets through an awful lot of work but dubious about his quality on the ball. Might be an option if he were 2 years younger and 20 mill cheaper.
Imagine that this is complete and utter fluff anyway. There are a few Gerrard will want to move on but very much doubt he is one. |

Blokes a prat that’s my reasoning for not wanting him

reckon he's just the PL version of Darren Ambrose, i.e. scores cracking goals every so often but doesn't really contribute that much else.

Technically he is good and weighs in with his fair share of goals but not sure he is as athletic as our midfield will be demanding in Gallagher's absence.
Looked slow vs us at Villa Park and got away with murder after being late on a couple of occasions for which he would get booked/sent off for us. Think we can find better value, age profile and hunger elsewhere. |

They have a lot of quality youngsters coming through (the midfield 3 for england U19 were all Villa, including Ramsey who looks a player destined for the very top to me.
McGinn has always played well against us and is one of those irritating, snappy aggressive players that you dislike against you but love for you I would think. Would be surprised if he came to us but TBH I am still surprised they are selling him even allowing for Coutinho, Luiz, Ramsey and the other youngsters. It does seem as if they need to sell someone to balance books/ffp or something and maybe he is the odd one out. I would think he fits Viera's bill nicely but surely not cheap.

He played very well against us recently in a 'can't stand that guy' kind of way. If he played for us we'd love him. He's combative, irritating and the kind of player we'd need if we want to play Zaha, Eze and Olise in the same team (although Zaha is also combative and puts in a shift). I wonder if McGinn likes to press.
But he will soon be 28. He recently signed a long term contract so Villa 'willing to listen to offers' sounds like they want rid and it should be a buyers market. |
