Sam Johnstone
Need to get him playing ASAP to sort out who our top two are

I would imagine we will see him tomorrow. The other three senior keepers are all in Singapore, so it will be him and Whitworth for Ipswich/Gillingham/QPR

Will be good to see him in the friendlies over here.

Any idea why he isn't playing or on the team sheet for any of the friendlies ? Doucoure , who joined much later, started today against Ipswich.

Very disappointed not to see him involved at QPR today.
Means we're only an injury to Vince away from Matthews starting ![]() |

On another thread it said he was almost match fit from a thigh injury. No way VG would have started yesterday if the only fit backup over 21 was Matthews.

We are blessed with keepers so it would be freakish to be down to 4th choice but it happens occasionally I guess

Seen a few people say this. They’re not just going to deny Guaita minutes in pre season on the off chance he gets an injury if we were down to just Guaita and Matthews.

You can get an emergency goalie in and it doesn't count as a transfer, does it not?

We would need three injured goalies to get an emergency in. Well remember Newcastle needing four when they went down. Still think with what we currently have we should have Johnstone, VG and Butland. Matthews has never played in the prem for a reason. Johnstone has had few injuries, prior to a Palace medical….

Nixon:
Keeper Sam Johnstone hopes to be back in full training at Crystal Palace in time for the start of the season. Johnstone damaged a quad muscle in pre season soon after joining from West Brom but he is close to fitness which is a relief after rival Jack Butland broke a finger.

Interesting chat with a WBA fan about Johnstone .
Excited for this signing but he will have to get past Vincente first obviously ! To view the link you have to Register or Login

As Pickford is out injured for a month, what chance has Sam Johnstone got in getting the England third keeper call-up for the Nations League games against Italy (23 Sep) and Germany (26 Sep)?
Presumably Pope and Ramsdale will be Nos. 1 and 2, so he may be competing with Forster or Henderson. |

Saw him in the U21 game against Hertha Berlin the other night and whilst he looks a really imposing figure and handling was good he wasn't really put under any great pressure. However, his kicking and passing generally not great.
I know its only one game but for me Guaita is still our number one. which means no England call up in the foreseeable future. |

I don’t really fancy Johnstone’s chances of any future call up for England. Pickford, Ramsdale, Pope and Henderson all ahead of him, and he isn’t no 1 here
