Some typical toys out the pram responses on the match thread but considering the pre-season we’ve had that was a decent performance.

There seemed to be a massive gulf in sharpness from Guehi, Eze, Zaha, Schlupp and Doucoure who stayed at home and played against Gillingham and QPR, and Andersen, Mitchell, Clyne and Ayew who had played in competitive games against Liverpool and Man U.

I think if we have a tough first fixture of the season we really need to go out of our way and find a proper team to play our last friendly against to get the necessary sharpness.

Watford and Montpellier just aren’t good enough preparation for Arsenal and Chelsea.

Guaita – 6 Didn’t have a lot to do, could have maybe done better for their goal?

Clyne – 7 Dealt with Martinelli well.

Andersen 8 – Excellent defensively and some sublime long balls.

Mitchell – 7 Solid performance and kept Saka quiet for the most part.

Doucoure – 7 Got a big welcome to the Premier League when Jesus glided past him and struggled for the first 30 minutes but I think showed his quality and how he will be an upgrade on Kouyate.

Schlupp – 6 Made a great block on Odegard but looked a bit off the pace.

Eze – 6 Also looked off the pace and had a poor first touch for his chance.

Ayew – 7 Very typical Ayew performance, worked extremely hard and some good dribbles mixed in with giving the ball away very cheaply.

Edouard – 5 Just wasn’t the sort of game for him and was a mistake not to start Mateta in this game, any long ball up to him he just couldn’t make anything stick and Gabriel and Saliba won’t have an easier game all season.

Zaha – 6 – Looked off the pace and tried a few careless flicks that nearly put us in a lot of trouble.

Mateta – 7 Very good when he came on and showed why he should be starting.

Milivojevic – 6 Did reasonably well when he came on but he’s not on Doucoure’s level

Ebiowei – 7 Looked a real threat one on one every time he got the ball
Hughes – N/A not on long enough to give a rating

Overall a good performance, just lacked a bit of sharpness and didn’t have luck on our side like we had in the 3-0 in April.

For all the Arsenal talk before the game, they are either not that good or we are really good.

And to all the whiners, the stats show we gave as good as we got and given we had so many players off the boil that can only be a good omen for the rest of the season:

Andersen about as close to a 10 as a player can get.
Solid 7 for Doucoure - good debut, shame he went off.
4s for Edouard, Eze and Guehi for either missing key chances or just being poor.
6 for everyone else, who collectively started poor then improved.

Another obvious key decision goes against us (see 90% of last season).
Deserved a draw. Not too disappointed with the result. Get a couple of key players back/bring a new face or two in and we could kick on from where we were last season.

Andersen by some distance.

Doucoure tidy.

Eze very ineffectual initially but grew into it as the game went on. Tough opposition and still making his way back.

Ayew very good at times. Wilf looked a touch quicker than last season.

Again.. Andersen was immense.

We'll be fine. Arsenal were good and will have a good season. 2 nil was harsh.

Resounding for Andersen so far. 20 votes all for him

Someone had to be at fault for Arsenals first goal and on replay it was clearly Zaha. He had a fairly poor first half all round, kept getting beaten when he was trying to get a pass away. Second half he improved a lot though

They were clearly far stronger in first 20 but thought we matched them until the own goal knocked the stuffing out of us.

Didnít create as much as would have liked but two clear cut Opps for Ed + Ez. Take one of these and could have changed the game.

Ball didnít quite fall our way in the box either.

We know that when we play the Ďbiggerí sides, we need a bit of good fortune and just wasnít on our side today.

Not worried about relegation on this showing but some points would have been nice!

Don’t you just love it when pretty much all your worse fears materialise into reality, straight off the bat, game 1 of the new campaign? What a naive outfit ( but yes, terribly well meaning) we can be. Balance, structure, leaders, know-how etc. I wish . Allout Fancy Dannery is gonna get found out and we look committed to it, based on our attitude to this fixture.

Andersen was outstanding

Doucoure was good too.

Eze had a poor poor game.

Ayew had a good game

That’s about it for me

Seen some very unflattering comments about Eze tonight but I think pairing him with Schlupp against Arsenal was never going to end well. Get a hardman to accompany him and I think there's plenty of hope for him in that role.

Andersen obviously fantastic.

Our current midfield won’t make up the tally of Conor’s goals last season. All looked scared to shoot on the edge of the box and don’t make effective runs in to it to create chances like he did.

Guaita 6
Clyne 7
Andersen 8
Guehi 5
Mitchell 5.5
Doucoure 6.5
Schlupp 6
Eze 4.5
Ayew 7
Edouard 6
Wilf 7

Mateta 6
Luka 6
Hughes 6
Ebiowei 6.5

As I expected, I think we missed Gallagher badly.

I'm still not totally convinced about Eze in that role but maybe if we get a better midfielder in Schlupp's position the balance could work a bit better.
But he was completely ineffective into he first half and then such a weak shot from a golden chance. If he's going to play there he needs to do better in that kind of situation.

At least one midfielder needed and hopefully a better striker too.

We played well for quite a long period too though. So no need to panic. I'm not convinced Arsenal were/ are as good as Sky made out though.

There was definitely a point on offer for us we had started better and taken some golden chances.

And set piece defending... It needs to improve.

I liked the look of Doucourť. He reminded me of Milivojevic when he first came to the club.

As an aside I thought Milivojevic did surprising well when he came on.

Andersen MOM by a country mile.

Game went about as well as our opening game last season - I hope we turn it around like last year.
