AWB - Jan 23
Nixon:
Manchester United will let Aaron Wan-Bissaka go ‘home’ to Crystal Palace if the clubs can agree a loan deal. Wan-Bissaka is well out of favour under Erik ten Hag — playing just four minutes for the first team as a substitute back in August and only getting a brief look at the bench in recent weeks. Palace boss Patrick Vieira would take their former defender back but a loan move is the only way he can afford him — and that will take some negotiating. Palace may have to pick up all of Wan-Bissaka’s £80,000-a-week wages making it an expensive deal even without having to pay a transfer fee. To view the link you have to Register or Login

Can’t see this happening until possibly next summer and even then I have my doubts

I don't know, having AWB would give us better cover for Mitchell as well, Clyne has played LB plenty and Ward was surprisingly good last time he filled in there.

Tbh a loan with option to buy may be best for Palace (not our main positional priority), United ( an unhappy individual employee) and most importantly the young guy (who has fallen from his peak at Palace).

He’d be an upgrade on what we have at RB so I’d love this to happen.

We almost certainly won't be doing a single thing to improve our midfield this January and will spend the season in a compromised and risky state. If we can shore up the defense ( an area that we are willing to seriously invest in ) then it is a virtual necessity to decrease our chances of getting into trouble. |

Withe the right deal and I don't know why anyone couldn't see this as a good opportunity.
Exactly the same situation as Wilf and we all know how that worked out.

If he had been playing regularly he might have been in contention for the WC given all the injuries at RB.

But yeah, if it’s the right deal, I’d absolutely take him back. He was spoken of as one of the best right backs in the world not even a couple of season ago. Sometimes things like this happen, but the whole "rubbish going forward" thing is very overblown. There’s a difference between what is required of a full back at a club that spends 200m+ a season and a club like ours. He regularly beat men during his time here, is actually quite skilful and does chip in with assists. Vieira is also not an overly attacking manager. Possession based, yes. But he’s quite pragmatic and definitely values defensive solidity. He’d be getting one of the (if not the) best one on one defensive full backs in the world, who is skilful, has the pace to get up the pitch and was at Palace since he was 11 years old. Can see us being all over this, and why not. Last edited by ms21; 06-11-2022 at 12:41 AM. |

If a deal can be done, one that Parish and Dougie find reasonable, then we should go for it 100%. Only concern with a loan is that if a player comes in and excels, if makes it difficult to do make it permanent when they go back to their parent club.
I think with right back a position we need to improve on not only now but with Clyne and Ward ageing, we need someone to come in permanently so that they can play for us in the long term. |

Not bothered ... don't really think it's like Wilf coming back!

I agree but there is the further consideration that the midfield and attack will need a lot of work, assuming Zaha does leave. With our current midfield not delivering goals from the middle ( no Gallagher-style player basically ) and Zaha's goals going as well, having a meaner defense would be an important asset. AWB is the best RB I've ever seen at Palace and I think we would have a top eight defence with him and everyone else fit.

Could definitely see it happening, he’s not playing and would be an upgrade at RB. Only issue is if another club is willing to pay more of his wages, which isn’t out of the question, especially as West Ham were sniffing in the summer.

Just another temporary fix, albeit a good one, he'd improve us, return to MU and we'll fail to replace.
Just like CG. |

Think if we get him on loan it will be with a view for Man U to quietly sell him back to us a bit later, for a lot less than £50m.

The key bit of that article is that he has less than 2 years left on his contract. AWB and Palace can just wait for that to run down. Why should they help Man Utd out by taking on the full wages or pay any significant fee?
