Are Palace fans part of our problem?
WHAT? HOW DARE YOU? I hear you all say.
I am proud of the Palace fan base on the whole, we tend to be a passionate but sensible bunch, but, is that a problem to achieve success? Are we too sensible to get this club on its toes to compete? Do we accept too much? I tend to find most palace fans value a stable and well run club, not to overspend (like the money is coming from our own pockets) and continue to support our manager and players far longer than most clubs appear to. In your opinion - should we not be much more demanding of our players, manager and board? Should we be more unreasonable in the pursuit of success? Should we insist on higher quality signings? |

I think there is a difference between those that go to games and those that only watch on tv/streams. The latter seem to be symptomatic of historical 'armchair-fans', only these days they have a much louder voice across the various forms of social media of which this forum is but one.
Those that go to games I'd say are much more thoughtful about proceedings. My source for this was the poll posted after the Villa game when the poll jumped up into 80/20 before coming down to 60/40 and over the course of the next few days, settled at 40/60 pretty much. This would suggest those that reacted later, if not just those at the game, had had a chance to consider and voted based on their thoughts rather than by what some might consider 'knee-jerk.' Just my opinion, others may vary, etc. |

The perceived anonymity that Twitter is seen by some to provide is the biggest cesspit of them all imo.

So to offer my opinion on your initial question; No, I don't believe we are part of the problem. We are a passionate bunch but many of us are too-far gone and have too much Palace experience not to appreciate this purple patch or EPL football. Many people talk a lot of sense and have some great insight. Some just talk bobbins. And then there is glaziers fan who does both and adds an extra 'WTF?' for good measure (no harm meant, GF

Just look at Twitter today and some of the hysterical nonsense going on at the mere suggestion of a 10 game firefighter role for Roy.

When was the last time we genuinely forced a manager out? I would say Trevor Francis. Even the likes of Pardew still retained some support and despite the turgid football at times, nobody was truly Anti-Roy in his last season, other than online perhaps.
We’re a supportive bunch, we have a very strong online presence for a mid-sized club with the BBS and HOL, so it’s understandable we have a fair few that go into meltdown online but rarely in person. That said, the atmosphere has been pretty dross in comparison to previous seasons and that’s something we usually pride ourselves on. So many clubs only sing when their side are doing well and we’ve been one of the few to back our club even in tough times. That feels like it’s dwindling though, so I hope whoever comes in next gets full backing and we see some ambition across the board for a prolonged period! |

![]() It's hard enough on here at times that I have to take a break otherwise then, I would also become part of the problem, and turning against our fellow fans serves no purpose. |

What is the difference between the anonymity on Twitter and the anonymity that you have taken advantage of on this forum?

Well, indeed. So why is it Twitter is so much more offensive than this place? which I admit, has its moments. Perhaps the fact that it is a moderated forum with a degree of self-moderation?

Nash84.
Chill out and enjoy this ride. It'll be over soon. Then we'll start another one. This is Palace and like it or not, it's what you signed up for. |

What concerns me most are the individuals on here and other sites who say "that's it, not following this shower of shit anymore".
I mean we are all frustrated at times but if you don't get what following Palace means by now you'll never know! I suspect Parish and co keep an eye on this site and use it as a temperature check on the overall mood of the fans but as shred business men I'm sure they would have weighted up the whole picture. Certainly there are elements of behind the scenes issues thst we weren't aware of which would have played a part in their decision making. I just hope we get behind the team now and help get the team over the safety line, then regroup in the summer and go again. (It's what we do best as a fan base). Hate to see talk of armchair and non-armchair fans, we are all Palace and often we swap between the two groups.

We are too patient... With Benteke, with Luka, Eze and dare I say it but probably Vieira too, or at least the football he served up. Parish may become the next panto villan if Ayew or Schlupp are rested.
Us fans haven't been at our best this season, Selhurst and away from home our support has been good in spells but we are rightly fatigued with football and stuff off the pitch. Watching CPFC hardly feels like a laugh or an escape at the moment.

Only thing I demand is high effort, something this team has been lacking for a while.

I just want to go an enjoy the odd game here and there, be on my edge of my seat more than once a season and not watch stuff that could bore a glass eye to sleep.

Yes - there’s a portion of the fans who lack ambition and are just happy to have a club because we have faced administration twice. Therefore they put up with the complete shambles in recruitment and lack of progress made as a club when it comes to the stadium etc. They tend to live in constant fear and remind everyone of the times we nearly went out of business, as a reason as to why we should all just be grateful and shouldn’t demand more.

Yes, demand more.
Like demanding we show some ambition to fulfil our potential, not self destruct and regress to a 75 year old retired manager. Like demanding they don’t neglect the recruitment of first team players and leave gaping holes in the squad. Like demanding their chairman doesn’t take a salary that equates to the 5th highest in the PL despite the seemingly lack of funds available to improve the club ‘s conditions on and off the pitch. |
