Crystal Palace eye Portuguese boss to take over from Roy Hodgson after snubbing him for flop Patrick Vieira in 2021

CRYSTAL PALACE have put Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca on their radar as the long-term successor to Roy Hodgson.

The Eagles will wait for the right time to move for the highly-rated Lille boss, who was on their hit list before they picked Patrick Vieira in July 2021.

Hodgson, 76, agreed to stay on for this season but Palace are already working out a plan for when he finally leaves.

Fonseca, 50, is keen to come to the Prem.

Ipswich chief Kieran McKenna is also on the shortlist at Selhurst Park.

Former England boss Hodgson made history by becoming the first opposition manager to go unbeaten in five consecutive games at Old Trafford.

Little chance of getting McKenna in the summer if he gets Ipswich promoted.

Kieran McKenn is an interesting one. Although untested at a high level, he’s certainly impressing at Ipswich. Maybe we’re copying Brighton and secession planning in case Foncesa comes and doesn’t cut the crust

Or.... Maybe we'd be doing it anyway, rather than simply 'copying Brighton.'

Which bits do you think aren't true?

That we aren't looking at who might take over from Roy?

That Fonseca isn't on the list of possibilities?

It would be pretty poor planning if they weren't true

You'd be forgiven for thinking Brighton invented succession planning

I’d keep Hodgson for as long as possible if the board aren’t going to invest much next summer. No one is better at dealing with the current lack of depth that we have than Roy.

Agreed but the article implies we are looking for someone to take over next summer. Iíd be tempted to see if Hodgson can do one or two more years.

I would have said not so long ago Paddy McCarthy is as good a bet you could get to take over, but maybe we are now having a rethink about Paddy as being the right one when having to manage under his own initiative? importantly for a club like ourselves with many limitations both On and Off the field, it will need a canny experienced manager appointed as Roy has shown it is what's needed if a club like Palace are to make progress or to even survive in the premiership.
So Who realistically could we attract and who would be willing to join? as i assume there wont be too many in demand managers knocking on our door.
(1) Talk of the guy McKenna at Ipswich however promising he maybe, but for me it's far too premature at this stage in his development to consider in my opinion, so it's a No.
(2) Strange as it may seem due to his teams current struggles, but Sean Dyche would seem to be an ideal CPFC type manager and when working at a club with not too much expectancy he excels, and why he could well be a success at Palace. So a definite Possibility.
(3) We keep hearing the name Paulo Fonseca constantly pop up and who has the right CV but i feel this one has run its course and i don't see this happening, but i would not be surprised to see a Foreign manager being appointed, but who is anyone's guess.
(4) So this guy for me would be the obvious choice if still available Graham Potter, make no mistake he fits the bill perfectly in every aspect and just what Palace are looking for to introduce a "new way forward" but in a realistic way, also Palace would offer Graham Potter the ideal job to get himself and his dented career back on track.
So my options/choices and i am being realistic, would be without doubt 1st Graham Potter, and as the next alternative Sean Dyche, anybody else would be next in line.
