If we are relegated, should the new stand be built?

If we are relegated, should the new stand be built? But also, if we stay up, should the new stand remain a priority over having an adequate balanced squad? Interested to know people’s thoughts.

You have made the classic error of assuming that funds are going to be one for the other when it has already been said that new investment - from the current ownership or from new investors is going to pay for the new stand. Likely a mixture of the two.

Regardless, yes the new stand should be built regardless of division.

The money for the stand is completely disconnected from squad funds.

The old main stand is an embarrassing laughing stock and must be replaced.

They would immediately find an excuse, however it would actually be an ideal time to build it because of the drop in attendance.

I assumed it would be one pot for infrastructure projects and one pot for transfers but then I heard Parish talking about how we couldn’t afford to spend much on transfers because we had to build the stand and in the meantime rely on loans rather than permanent signings. (But then we signed Munoz and Wharton.)

Just wondering if we still build the stand with spiralling coats and if we are in the Championship? At what point is the project postponed?

That’s a good point actually: perhaps we could build it more cheaply if we didn’t need to keep the stand operational due to relegation?

The new stand won't be built with any loss to capacity. Some disruption on matchdays due to the work machinery etc. but no actual loss of seats.

Having been in both recently, I'd say the Arthur is far worse.

Without wanting to go into the Selhurst Redevelopment Thread too much, you cannot re-build the AW without upgrading other stands first to deal with the displacement of fans.

It has to be Main Stand, WHL and then AW. In that order.

Unless we are going to groundshare.

This is just my opinion but personally I've never been that bothered if the stand is built or not.

Try to improve the facilities in some of the stadium instead. I know Selhurst Park is considered a ramshackle ground which people look down their noses at and yes, I know an increased capacity should increase our revenue streams but not for me (I realise I may be in a minority).

And if we did get relegated and got stuck in the C'Ship wouldn't the new stand become a white elephant ? - Presumably would be expensive to sit in, so I can imagine lots of empty seats in for say Preston at home, on a cold Tuesday night.

I vaguely remember a similar comment from Parish. I think he was talking about the extra revenue created from the stand allowing us more funds to compete on the pitch.

I.e when we build the stand we will have a more competitive playing budget, not we are redirecting funds away from buying players to build it.

I doubt the main stand will get a safety certificate for much longer ,surprised it still passes.

Oooooh was that when he was talking about the likes of West Ham etc. who have got the power to spend more because their matchday incomes are huge compared to ours?
